Le donne nel design – 3 designer che dovresti conoscere

Women in design – 3 designers you should know

Women's Day on March 8th gives us an excellent opportunity to talk about the great all-female design talents. Even if numerically smaller than their male colleagues, in recent times more and more attention has been paid to the importance of some designers in overturning the canons and creating decidedly unique and original creations.

This is demonstrated by the exhibitions dedicated to them in recent years, including Elles@Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2009, Designing Modern Women 1890 – 1990 at the MoMa in New York in 2013 up to the recent W. Women in Italian Design at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in 2017. In this blog post eenterior we tell you the story of 3 women designers you should definitely know, with some of their greatest and most unpredictable furniture designs.

Ludovica Serafini @ Palomba Serafini Associati

All-Italian pride, Ludovica Serafini was born in Rome in 1961 and founded the studio Ps+a Palomba Serafini Associati in Milan in 1994 together with Roberto Palomba. Right from the start their objective was clear to everyone: "upsetting the natural order of the elements to create something new".

And this is precisely the vision that animates their collection of Let It Be sofas for Poltrona Frau. A sofa with soft shapes and strong lines, composed of modular elements that combine in ever new ways. Have you ever thought that with a degree of customization like this, yours could probably be a unique sofa in the world?

A tribute to the Beatles, the sofa plays and experiments, challenging the norms and establishing itself as an exclusive and inimitable piece of Made in Italy design. The sofa is authentic and soft-hearted, just like every woman.

Patricia Urquiola @ Studio Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola © patriciaurquiola.com

Originally from Oviedo in Spain, this visionary artist completed her studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, following the lessons of great designers, including Achille Castiglioni. Does it tell you anything? Go to Google and write Arco lamp... It is from him that you learn what will make his design and architecture projects unique: creating an empathetic relationship with those who come into contact with his creations. In short, Urquiola's is a design not to be shown but to be told and to be experienced.

Experimenting is his strong point and his series of Liquefy tables and consoles demonstrates this very well. Playing with materials and recreating the veins of marble on transparent glass tops that change before the eyes of those who look at them. They remind us of the waves of the sea that we miss so much, what about you?

Doriana Fuksas @ Studio Fuksas

An internationally prestigious studio, Studio Fuksas was founded by Doriana Fuksas and her husband, carrying out an incredible variety of projects over the years, from interior design to urban architecture . Go and take a look at how he transformed “La Voile Blanche”, a 5-star hotel on the French Riviera. Now you would like to get on a plane and move there, right?

Emblem of his creativity and imagination is the Lucy mirror. A wall mirror with sinuous and decidedly feminine lines, while we're on the subject of women. Lucy is created in fused glass to recall the evocative lunar surface, enclosed by three irregular petals. Positionable in different ways, it adapts to the environment in which it is hung, for a different design and ever more personal.
